Pleasant hike (albeit with a certain gradient) that leads from Piano d'Arta to a curious geologic setting-the Cjampanii dal Lander-through a lovely bivouac and a full view of the central stretch of the But Valley.
Trail 408 starts from the capitol in the center of Arta Terme (550 mslm), at the intersection of SP111 and Via Comelli, the one that goes up to the church. We follow the latter until we pass the last houses; the asphalt gives way to dirt road and, following the small road without deviating, we descend to cross the Randice Creek. The path resumes on the opposite bank,i uphill into the woods; the slope will reduce a little at the crucifix. Watch out for the curious system of managing bear sightings (just kidding...); at the only fork we follow for "Lander Bivouac," which we reach in a few minutes (1190 mslm).
The view of the But Valley is exceptional: on clear days you can see the Friulian plain, the lagoon of Grado and Marano, and the sea.
Behind the bivouac, across a wide forest road, is the little path that climbs to the Lander Campaniles. About fifteen minutes zigzagging between forest and overhang (the path is not exposed, and there is a good fence), and you arrive at the viewpoint of the Campanili del L ander (1240 mslm), a perfect place to observe the great paleo-landslide and the shapes sculpted by subsequent erosion, as well as the Madonnina del Lander.
You ring the bell and descend by the same route.
