Music in the Roccoli

Have you ever heard a bird-call imitator?
On a summer afternoon, we sit outside in a leafy square, surrounded by perfectly aligned hornbeams, eagerly anticipating the concert of a band with a unique name: Ultramarine.
The leader is a famous jazz musician and the vocalist is an award-winning bird-call imitator. Who knows what kind of show awaits us!

It's an hour and a half of unexpected melodies and virtuosity perfectly attuned to the setting: the Roccolo of Pre Checo. The green structure, once created to trap migrating birds, returns for an afternoon to its recreational function. Wild birds and those who mimicked their songs duet here today, just as they used to. Today we have the addition of a musical accompaniment, so that even us laypeople can enjoy this spectacle of nature. Originated from the need to hunt for food, today the roccoli have become a cultural expression of unquestionable charm, still deeply linked to their popular roots.

The birds are singing, a light breeze brings some relief from the summer heat, the rays of light play among the fronds of the hornbeams, and the scents of the undergrowth: it's a show within the show.
Congratulations to those in charge of these events; every year there are more and more, and sometimes they're even organised at dawn, to admire the sunrise. They are perfect for those tourists that want to experience the genius loci of the places they are visiting.

Whether it is only for an afternoon in the shade of the roccoli, or for a whole holiday exploring this magical territory, I invite you to make your way to Montenars, a small village on the slopes of Monte Cuarnan, to immerse yourself in the rejuvenating serenity of nature.

*Note: Ultramarine are Daniele d'Agaro (clarinet), Denis Biason (guitar), Marco D'orlando (drums), Luigi Vitale (marimba) and Camillo Prosdocimo (bird-call imitator).
