The Giro d'Italia stage starts in Cividale del Friuli, a UNESCO site, and ends at the Sanctuary of Castelmonte, cycling through the woods of the Natisone Valleys!
The climb is traveled every year by thousands of amateur cyclists, athletes and cycle tourists. It starts from the locality of Carraria (alt. 139 m), in the outskirts of Cividale, and climbs the slopes of the eastern hills. It reaches Castelmonte (alt. 587 m), an ancient fortified village, a Marian worship site probably dating back to the 5th-6th centuries AD. The Sanctuary of Our Lady of Castelmonte is still an important place of pilgrimage and a tourist destination for the beauty of the area and the wide views that can be admired from the top of the hill.
