    The itinerary connects the cycle paths that run through two of Carnia's valleys: the But stream valley and the Degano stream valley. The majority of the itinerary for both paths is on cycle tracks or roads with restricted vehicular access and occasional stretches on roads open to traffic. It is the best cycling itinerary for those who want to get to know the diverse aspects of Carnia's landscape, culture, food and wine, as well as its tourist attractions.

    Food & wine:

    Carnia is also synonymous with sweets. In the small municipality of Raveo, you can savour the Ses di Raveo, crispy, fragrant biscuits made from simple S-shaped ingredients, while from Tolmezzo it is said that the delicacy that became the favourite form of invigorating tonic after mountain hikes and days spent on skis originated: tiramisu! RECOMMENDED DISH: Sweet Cjarsons of Carnia

    Itinerary:

    The loop starts from Tolmezzo and follows the But stream towards Zuglio, an ancient Roman town, to the Arta Terme spa. Then it goes further up the valley towards Sutrio and arrives at the gates of Paluzza. To join the Val Degano cycle track, one must cross the Sella Valcalda saddle at Ravascletto (altitude 958 m). Descend to Comeglians and from here along minor roads to Ovaro, where the cycle track built on the site of an old railway begins. Return to the Tagliamento valley at Villa Santina and return to Tolmezzo along the cycle path.

    Duration (excluding stops for sightseeing and detours):
    • sportspeople on road bikes: approximately 2 hours and 45 minutes;
    • tourists on e-bikes: approximately 3 hours and 30 minutes;
    • tourists on traditional bicycles: approximately 5 hours.

    Type of track: a loop circuit, in part on good gravel roads. It is an itinerary suitable for people who are moderately well-trained, for racing bikes with treaded or gravel wheels, e-Bikes, or MTBs. The track is signposted with specific tables, except for the Cercivento-Sella Valcalda-Comeglians section, which runs almost entirely along Regional Road 465 that is not very busy with traffic.
