The route connects the cycle paths that run through two valleys in Carnia:
the valley of the But stream and that of the Degano stream.
Route:
The loop starts from Tolmezzo and follows the But stream towards Zuglio, an ancient Roman town, until reaching the vicinity of Arta Terme. Then it goes back up the valley towards Sutrio and reaches Cervircento. To connect to the Degano valley cycle path, you must cross the Sella Valcalda at Ravascletto (alt. 958 m). It then descends to Comeglians and reaches Ovaro via secondary roads, where the bike path on the bed of an old railway begins. It returns to the Tagliamento valley passing near Villa Santina and reenters Tolmezzo along the cycle route.
Food & wine:
Carnia is also synonymous with sweets; in the small town of Raveo, you can savor the esse di Raveo, crunchy and fragrant cookies with simple ingredients shaped like the letter S, while from Tolmezzo it is said that the delight that became the preferred form of invigorating tonic after mountain hikes and days spent skiing was born: tiramisù!
RECOMMENDED DISH: Carnia’s sweet Cjarsons
