From the historic center of Grado to Trieste: a fascinating bike route through lagoon landscapes, nature reserves, and the colors of the Trieste Karst.
The route starts from the island of Grado, a popular tourist destination known for its beaches, lagoon, and ancient historic center. Proceed east to reach the Valle Cavanata Nature Reserve. Continue cycling and arrive at the Isola della Cona, which together with the Caneo area is part of the Foce dell’Isonzo Nature Reserve. Continue along the embankment towards Marina Julia, a renowned seaside resort, and proceed to Monfalcone, an active industrial area linked to the shipyards featured at "MuCa", the Shipbuilding Museum. After leaving the city of Monfalcone, the Timavo river marks the entrance to the Trieste Karst territory. Pass the Fishermen’s Village and continue to Duino, whose castle welcomes visitors. Keep cycling towards Trieste, passing the bay of Sistiana and the Grignano promontory, where the splendid Miramare Castle stands, a wonderful gateway to the city of Trieste.
For a less busy route, in Aurisina it is possible to continue to Trieste along the Salvia and Pucino itinerary (P016).
