A country ride to discover the Friulian lowlands, among cultivated land, resurgence rivers, rural villages and ancient villas.
The route runs through the strip of land between the seaside resort of Lignano, the village of Marano Lagunare, the UNESCO site of Palmanova and the resurgence area of Codroipo. From San Giorgio di Nogaro, the industrial port of the Upper Adriatic, we pedal towards Carlino, where the lowland forests act as a prelude to the nearby Marano lagoon. Continuing towards Muzzana, it is worth visiting the Church of the Martyrs Gervasius and Protasius before plunging into the Friulian countryside. Having passed Rivarotta and Pocenia, a stop at the picnic area next to the church in the small village of Chiarmacis is recommended. In Ariis , an interesting locality from a naturalistic point of view, there is the Regional Aquarium and the Villa Ottelio Savorgnan with its park: it seems that it was this villa that provided the setting for the love story that inspired Shakespeare in the composition of Romeo and Juliet. We return to San Giorgio di Nogaro, after passing through the villages of Paradiso and Porpetto.
