The proposed route is located in a typical and suggestive alpine environment. Fir and larch forests, which turn golden in autumn, grow lushly on slopes shaped by glaciers.

Traces of these glaciers are also found in the body of water that is the destination of the route, where rainwater fills the bottom of a basin formed during the glaciations. The fauna and flora living in the lake are very varied and of great interest: indeed, some amphibian species such as the alpine and crested newt and numerous insect species live here.

These peaceful and quiet places still show signs of the events of the First World War. The path allows visiting some features such as a trench and a fortified position.

The trail also reaches the "Fratelli Grego" hut from which you can enjoy a splendid view of the Julian Alps walls.

    Author’s recommendation

It is recommended to visit the Dogna Territory Museum to fully appreciate the naturalistic and historical context.

Autumn, with its colors, is the best season to walk this route.
