Hike on foot, of medium difficulty, that from Rivalpo di Arta Terme leads to one of the most panoramic peaks of the Carnic Alps, between the Chiarsò valley and the Pontaiba valley

A hike that encompasses some precious gems of the Carnic territory. It starts just beyond the town of Rivalpo, from the road alternating well-kept meadows with silent woods. Climbing the asphalt road, closed to vehicular traffic, you gain altitude quickly, immersing yourself in the views that stretch across the entire But valley. Upon reaching the grassy plain of Malga Valmedan, the rocky dome of Monte Sernio shows itself in all its magnificence towards the east. From the alpine pasture begins the most scenic section of the climb, with a path that climbs the steep southern slopes of Tersadia along a daring, but never difficult, wartime mule track. Numerous wartime artifacts from the Great War are encountered also in the following ascent stretch, when, after bypassing the slope towards the north, the path goes through the dwarf pines of the final ridge. The summit cross marks the arrival at the 1960m peak, incredibly panoramic in all directions.

    Author’s recommendation

Avoid climbing during the central hours of summer days; the upper part is fully exposed to the sun and there are no water sources along the route.

    Directions

Using State Road 52Bis you reach the town of Cedarchis, which you pass, finding shortly beyond on the right the signs for the Valle - Rivalpo hamlets.

Climbing for a few kilometers the Provincial Road 40, you reach the town of Rosa dei Venti from which, on the left, starts the road that leads to Rivalpo.

Once in town (signs) proceed to the right at the narrow fork, shortly reaching the church of S. Martino which must be bypassed continuing on the same road. After passing a small sports field and the following group of haylofts, you soon reach the no-entry point where it is possible to park in the small clearings present.
