Easy hike that takes place on the gentle slopes bordering Austria, suitable for every season and capable of offering ever-changing and exciting views.
The strong point of the hike is the wide mountain pastures rich in flora, the grazing livestock that must be approached with respect (dogs must be kept on a leash) and the incredible panoramas ranging from the peaks of Monte Lussari and Mangart to Jof Fuart, Montasio and even the Carnic heights to the west and the Austrian chain with the imposing Grossglockner standing out on the northern horizon.
Along the route, you can observe several traces of the past iron-manganese mining activity, including the Monte Cocco Mining Village. It is believed that these mines were already used in Roman times and extraction continued intermittently until the late 1940s.
Author’s recommendation
Please note that during the summer period, a ticket is required to access the road that climbs to the Malghe di Ugovizza, the starting point of the hike. A useful support point is the Rosic Farmhouse, open all year round.

Difficulty

Overall difficulty
easy
Derived from the technical difficulty and the stamina requirements.
There are no water sources along the ring; on particularly hot days consider carrying an adequate amount of water. If you want to do the hike in winter with snow-covered terrain, remember the need to use the avalanche kit – shovel – probe and consult the ARPA FVG snow bulletin. It is also recommended to pay attention to the numerous ski mountaineers who frequent the route.
Tips and suggestions
It is possible to do the ring route in both directions and limit yourself to just one of the proposed summits. To greatly simplify the itinerary, it is recommended to reach only the summit of Monte Cocco.
Public transport
It is possible to reach the village of Ugovizza, about km and 400m elevation gain from the starting point, via public transport.
