Illegio

Illegio, a splendid jewel, is a small town not far from Tolmezzo, a splendid jewel wedged between the mountains of Carnia. Visiting this ancient town (that was probably the impregnable and legendary fortress of Ibligo remembered by Paolo Diacono with regard to the final resistance of the Longobards) means entering a peaceful fragment of the world far from the racket of the western world, finding a sense of tranquillity where you will be able to listen, think and see.

The Parish Church of San Floriano, treasure trove of intact medieval beauty from the 9th century, stands at an altitude of 750 metres and can be visited every Sunday or by request during the week, by climbing a path (30 min) from where you can admire a splendid view of the surrounding mountains.
Recent archaeological digs have brought the early Christian site of San Paolo (4th century) to the surface, a Longobard fortification, a small Carolingian church and the remains of medieval Castellan houses. Lastly, you will be able to discover The Mills' Path with the sixteenth century Mulin dal Flec.
Many itineraries to discover the natural beauty of the area, such as Carnic Pievi Trail, a walking trail passes numerous pievi, small mountain churches, steeped in history and now silent oases for spiritual reflection.
