Remains of machine-gun pits and barracks on Mt. Piatto

Once you have concluded your visit to the remains of Mt. Klabuk, you can go back to the trail and head to Mt. Piatto (Trinski Vrh in Slovenian), crossing Zagradan Pass again. You will immediately see the ruins of a small barrack, which does not date back to the Great War. This is instead a military structure built during the Cold War, evidence of the tense relations between Italy and Yugoslavia in that period.

Further on, the trail running along the mountain ridge leads to some WW I remains, namely machine-gun pits and barrack ruins. They too were part of the Italian third defensive line swept away by a German battalion led by brilliant young lieutenant, Erwin Rommel, which advanced from Tolmin to the top of Mt. Matajur in a few days.

Unlike the remains on Mt. Klabuk, those on Mt. Piatto have not been restored and are actual ruins. Yet, they are worth a visit to get a general picture of the whole complex.
