Visco

Visco, whose name is supposed to derive from the Slav "vicek" (top) is situated at the northern limit of the Bassa Friulana area.

Evidence of active human presence dates back to over 3800 years ago, but the oldest signs of the current town of Visco date back to 1154, when Vicarius Oliverius is remembered.

During the Patriarchal period it remained a feud of the Patriarchs of Aquileia, depending on the Gastaldia (demesne) of Aiello.

The All Saints' Chapel in the cemetery (1848), St. Ann's Church - a place of devotion especially for pregnant women - the customs and the present "Al Vecchio Confine" inn were built between the 17th and the 18th century.

Borgo Piave was born in 1917, after the defeat of Caporetto; it was created by 400 refugees from towns along the river of the other front, who were accommodated in twenty hovels of a military hospital.

In order to recall this event, the municipality erected a monument in memory of the dead. We would like to point out the original gate of the cemetery open onto the pyramid, symbol of immortality, and the Latin writing "In bello hostes, in morte fratres hic requiebant in pace" (Enemies in war, brothers in death, rested here in peace).

Here, the Second World War is remembered due to the construction of an internment camp, which could accommodate about 10,000 people. A memorial tablet on the wall of the All Saints' Chapel recalls the civilian prisoners from ex Yugoslavia who died in the concentration camp.
