Ronchis

The name Ronchis probably comes from the word "Ronc's" or "Ron'c" which means a big difference of the ground level; as a matter of fact the village lies on the bank of the River Tagliamento.

Also that the country is on a slight incline, it may consist in the 1966 flood, where the town was dry while the country were flooded.

Only in 1834, with the first non-ecclesiastic registry office, it became a local authority. Its history is very old: in 1180 after many quarrels between the Patriarchs of Grado and Aquileia the village was given to the Church of Grado.

In the 13th century the charitable institution of San Bartolomeo di Volta was built as refuge for pilgrims who went to Latisana to sail for Istria, Dalmatia, Venice or for the Palestine.

In 1451 Ronchis passed under the Patriarchate of Venice and in 1818 became part of the Church of Udine.

It was under Austria's rule until 1866.
