Pesariis

It is the small mountain villages of Friuli Venezia Giulia that jealously safeguard the traditions and customs of past times. Tiny villages, nestled on the valley floor in the shadow of the high peaks. Villages of just a few souls where the ingenuity of the people has created unique customs born of daily necessities that have often developed into modern, contemporary examples of art and crafts.

In Pesariis di Prato Carnico, the entire village measures the passing of time with the precise and distinctive beat of its monumental clocks. In the Pesarina Valley, also known as the Valley of Time, the watchmaking tradition has its roots in the inhabitants of the village of Pesariis and led the timepieces of the Solari factory to be known all over the world.

Throughout this picturesque village of stone houses with sloping roofs, this strong tradition is marked by the many monumental clocks along the trail dedicated to time. Incredible clockwork mechanisms, featuring unique designs and rather ingenious mechanisms, can be seen on the walking tour that winds its way through the houses of this enchanting mountain hamlet.

Inside the local museum, the art of clock making is chronicled from its inception to modern times, and the nearby Casa Bruseschi presents a tangible insight into the life that followed the natural rhythm of the seasons in Carnic villages.

Pesariis has been nominated “BORGO WEEKEND GREEN NORD 2022/2023” - Green Weekend Village in the North - by the Populare Jury of the Weekend Premium Green Awards. The Awards nominates the excellences of green tourism and hospitality in Italy and in the world.
