Gonars
The origin of the name Gonars may derive from the Latin word Ganarium or from the Slovenian word Zvonàr, which means "bell ringer" or "bell foundryman".
Interesting are the finds from the Roman age and from the Lombard and Frankish period that were found in the lands of the area, in particular in the countryside between Fauglis and Gonars.
Craft and trade development started at the beginning of the twentieth century and continued until the first decades of the century, being characterized in particular by the establishment of footwear production; the relevance of this activity at its beginnings is testified by the presence of ten out of forty-nine craft factories registered to the Chamber of Commerce of Udine.
Don't miss a visit to the Park of the Corno River, which features a cycle track equipped with benches and educational panels.
It is also possible to visit the Concentration Camp, active from spring of 1942 to 8th September 1943 and the Memorial Chapel that contains the mortal remains of those who died in the concentration camp.
