Cassacco

Cassacco was founded in a very favourable geographical position before the Via Julia Claudia ad Noricum, which in the Roman age was one of the main roads linking the Adriatic to the Central Danube.

Moreover, the town was an important element within the defence system of Friuli's plain.

The castle of Cassacco, built in the late fifteenth century, is made up of two towers, decorated by a row of hanging arches and joined by a lower central body. It houses cultural events and exhibitions.

The Villa Gallici-De Ciani in Montegnacco, dating back to the 16th century, is situated in a wonderful natural setting, with gentle hills on the southern side and an amazing view over the Alps at the back.

In Raspano you can visit the Simeoni borough and the Cichinot peat bog, which features rare vegetable species. Going towards Conoglano, you will reach another peat bog and an eighteenth-century mill.

The dirt tracks of the pleasant bridle paths of the Cormor Valley start from the area of the Ferrant Mill (the traces of its original function can still be seen): they can be followed by bicycle or on foot.
