Route that winds along the trails and roads present in the municipality of Prepotto to discover the ancient votive chapels of the Natisone Valleys area.
The Via delle antiche Pievi is a route that runs along the trails and roads in the Municipality of Prepotto and connects four ancient votive chapels: the church of San Pietro Apostolo in San Pietro di Chiazzacco, the church of Saints Peter and Paul in Centa, the church of Saint Nicholas Bishop in Cladrecis, and the church of the Three Magi in Prepotischis, until reaching the Sanctuary of Castelmonte, a destination for many pilgrims throughout the year.
Along the route, visitors can explore the rural villages that characterize the Municipality of Prepotto and the ancient pievi and learn about their history thanks to the information panels installed near the chapels. There are rest areas along the way where you can refresh yourself and enjoy the surrounding hillside landscape.
The area is an important junction for other significant routes, such as the Celestial Path, the Sentiero Italia (CAI), and Alpe Adria Trail, as well as cycling and panoramic routes (Castelmonte panoramic route).
Given the length of the route, it is suggested to make use of the Sanctuary of Castelmonte as a equipped base for overnight stays.
