Many important points are touched by this short stage that starts from San Martino del Carso, made famous by the poet Giuseppe Ungaretti, who dedicated one of his best-known poems to it, arriving at one of the most emblematic places of World War I memory: the Sacrario di Redipuglia. It is just one of the testimonies present in this small territorial area and is the largest Italian memorial dedicated to the fallen of the Great War. Moved from nearby tombs and cemeteries, over 100,000 soldiers rest within its 22 terraces. Important ceremonies are still held at this site on November 4, for the Unity Day, and June 2, for the Republic Day, with the presence of the highest state authorities.
