WOP 9SI Nova Gorica - Lokvica

This itinerary starts, together with the Italian stages of the same name, in what can be seen as a multi-day loop circuit within the Walk of Peace. This route leads hikers away from the urban setting of Gorizia/Gorica and Nova Gorica, symbolic cities of the rediscovered Peace and communion between the people, and heads south along the territory of the Karst, which was particularly suited to the construction of fortifications because of its specific geological conformation. It is therefore possible to observe the traces of the Great War in these areas, which mark a unique and peculiar terrain, no less fascinating than the Alps or the hills of the Collio region. This territory is also home to several museums and important monuments, such as the Monument of Peace Cerje, a viewpoint on the edge of the Karst ridge.
