From Sauris di Sopra, climb to the Sella di Festons saddle, among alpine huts and glacial lakes, and continue to Casera Festons, Malino hut, Casera Vinadia Grande and Forcella Pieltinis.
This is a road only partially paved and closed to tourist vehicular traffic.
Departure is from the central square of
Sauris di Sopra (about 1400 m.) by taking the road to the right of the small fountain there. The first section, characterized by
considerable gradients, crosses the locality
Vlekhe to then reach the
Sella di Festons at an altitude of
1860 m. asl.
From this point, the view opens onto the wide plateau arranged in a semicircle of the Rioda, Festons and Malino huts, some suggestive glacial lakes, and above all the splendid crown of the Pesaro Dolomites. The hike continues through the pastures to Casera Festons (CAI path no. 204); in the direction of malga Malino you ascend to an altitude of 1862: a fork from which you can appreciate a majestic view. Following, a modest flat section precedes a steep descent into a basin, through which only a short climb separates us from the Malino pastures.
The road continues downhill to the Malino pasture buildings, beautifully located at an altitude of 1686 m. along the northern slopes of Mount Pieltinis. Previously, with a small detour you can reach another scenic site near a watering hole. Continuing slightly downhill, we almost immediately start climbing again toward the pass at an altitude of 1880m. from which, having made a short descent, we reach the Casera Vinadia Grande. In front of us we can see the entire route of the easy ascent leading to Forcella Pieltinis.
