Hiking route along the third stage of the "Carnic Traverse - Way of Peace," from the Obstansersee Hutte to the Porze Hutte, via the Filmoor Hutte
moderate
Distance 11.9 km
Duration5:05 h
Ascent657 m
Descent1,021 m
Highest point2,675 m
Lowest point1,903 m
The third stage starts from the Obstansersee hut and reaches the apex of the entire traverse at the Vanscuro peak, along the scenic ridges overlooking Comelico. The stage continues on the displuvial and at the base of the slopes of M. Cavallatto and Cavallino (which can be climbed with more challenging detours requiring the use of a via ferrata safety kit), reaching the airy Cavallino gap before descending to the Filmoor Hutte, a small hut within sight of the stunning Konigswand peak.
With long traverse across meadows and rocks, you lose altitude to the Unterer Stuckensee, a lake that lies at the bottom of a picturesque alpine valley, to ascend to the Heretriegel Fork and again eastward reaching the pylons of a high-tension line. With a final descent, still tending to traverse the valley, we reach the Porze Hutte at 1942m, the stage point of this third day, lying a short distance from the Dignas Fork pass.
Author’s recommendation
To avoid unnecessary weight in the backpack, it is possible to plan a lunch break at the Filmoor Hutte, a hut located about halfway along the trail.
The Porze Hutte plans to order dinner by 4:30 p.m.; dinner is served at 6:30 p.m.

Safety information
In case of uncertain weather forecasts or with a tendency for thunderstorm events, it is preferable to opt for hiking trail No. 403, which leads from the Obstansersee Hutte up to the Rosskopftorl and Mittersattel before reaching the Filmoor Hutte. Ridge routes can be avoided in this way.
Roadbook
From the hut follow route No. 5A heading south to Sella Frugnoni (Obstanser Sattel). Upon reaching the fork, the route climbs sharply up the resta culminating at 2678m of the Vanscuro peak, the highest elevation of the entire Ccarnica Traverse. Keeping to CAI trail marker 160, continue along a beautiful stretch over green ridges passing below the summit of Mt. Cavallatto and the southern walls of Mt. Cavallino, reaching the wide Cavallino Fork. Leaving CAI marker 160 and following the signs for the Filmoor Hutte, along route No. 403 on a slight descent you reach the small hut, then continuing on the same route through meadows and wetlands. Near the Oberer Stuckensee lake the descent ends, giving way to a rapid ascent to the Heretriegel saddle, which provides access to the headland from which the destination point can already be glimpsed in the distance. Trail 403 continues for a few hundred meters traversing meadows to the high-tension power line. Near the pylon the trail descends steeply and with a last traverse to the right reaches the Porze Hutte.
