Sporty and scenic cycling route through the Julian Alps, passing through Val Fella, Val Raccolana and the Rio del Lago Valley. An experience between mountain and nature.
Route
A very interesting route from the historical, naturalistic and ethnographic point of view. Along the route you pass through the three main valleys of the Julian Alps: Val Fella, Val Raccolana and the Rio del Lago Valley. By bicycle you can appreciate these territories, frequented by road cyclists as training for more daring undertakings.
Food & wine
Among the dishes that represent Friulian cuisine absolutely is the Frico, a regional flagship worldwide, a tasty dish based on fried cheese, to which you can add potatoes, onions, vegetables or aromatic herbs. The ingredients generally include different maturations of Montasio DOP cheese, a great and ancient cooked cheese made from milk of cows brought to the high pastures, semi-hard, with a characteristic soft, delicate and balanced flavor.
Winter passability is not guaranteed in Val Raccolana and the Rio del Lago Valley.
Derived from the technical difficulty and the stamina requirements.
Challenging route for length and elevation changes, suitable for somewhat trained people. Rideable with all bicycles equipped with gears. The route is entirely on paved roads: just over half on bike paths, the rest on lightly trafficked roads. There is more vehicle traffic during summer periods and weekends. Winter passability is not guaranteed in Val Raccolana and the Rio del Lago Valley even if roads are cleared, due to possible ice patches and snow layers.
Very cold area in winter and cool in summer.
