The famous climb to Monte Zoncolan is considered one of the toughest climbs in Europe for cyclists. For this reason, it is one of the routes of the Giro d'Italia.
This bike route offers the opportunity to tackle one of Europe's most fearsome climbs, the famous ascent to Monte Zoncolan, made famous in the cycling world thanks to the Giro d'Italia in 2003. The route is linear, with paved roads open to vehicle traffic. The climb from Sutrio is considered relatively manageable, with the first part featuring challenging but manageable slopes (11 km at an average of 8%). The most challenging section starts from the Suart farmhouse, with 3 km averaging 14% gradient and stretches up to 25%, culminating at Sella Zoncolan at 1739 m altitude.

Coming from the A23 Palmanova-Tarvisio motorway, exit at the Carnia tollgate and follow the signs for Tolmezzo. At the Tolmezzo ring road, follow the signs for Arta Terme/Austria SS52bis. Continue on this road until the junction leading to the Sutrio bridge.
You can find parking in the industrial area shortly after the junction or near the supermarket on the state road just before the junction for the bridge, only if the shop is closed.
