A scenic bike route along the right bank of the Tagliamento, among villages rich in history, art, and ancient traditions.
On the right bank of the Tagliamento, in the stretch where the river was more fordable, in the Middle Ages and in the following centuries a system of fortified villages and abbeys made the territory safe and supported the passage of merchants, travelers and pilgrims. The loop starts from San Vito al Tagliamento, a medieval walled town with a frescoed castle, and passes the Ligugnana hamlet, scene in 1948 of a peasants' and laborers' revolt that the young Pasolini immortalized in the novel "The Dream of a Thing." Cycling towards Morsano al Tagliamento, you encounter the San Paolo kiln, the only remaining one today of the 22 documented in the area between the 19th and 20th centuries for firing bricks and lime. The route goes through Cordovado, one of the most beautiful villages in Italy with its fortified medieval center, and Sesto al Reghena, another of the most beautiful villages in Italy, built around the Lombard-origin Abbey, a religious and artistic-cultural center of the entire territory.
In Morsano del Tagliamento, also called Morsano delle oche perhaps because such breeding was widespread in the area, the Goose Festival is held in summer.
