A ride, also suitable for gravel, on the Trieste Karst between the Gulf of Trieste and the Slovenian border, in the places of the Great War.
Route
The route develops around Monte Ermada, the scene of battles of the Great War, on dirt roads. You pedal immersed in the karst landscape, characterized by a great variety of flora and fauna, and along the route you encounter Duino Castle, Sistiana, the Fisherman's village and Malchina.
Food & wine
The Trieste Karst is populated by osmize, typical taverns where it is possible to taste local food and wines directly from their producers. Let yourself be fascinated by their rustic appearance, taste the Carso raw ham, pickled vegetables and typical cheeses accompanied by Marasca honey, a PAT product widely found in the area, and sip a glass of Terrano or Malvasia. RECOMMENDED DISH: Crostino with Liptauer (spreadable sheep cheese with spicy paprika)
The section up to the Slovenian border is challenging but rewarded by the view over the Gulf of Trieste.
Derived from the technical difficulty and the stamina requirements.
Mixed route, predominantly paved, on secondary roads without traffic and wide dirt roads.
Traffic sections on SR 14 from Duino to Sistiana for a total of 3.5 km.
On the return a stop is worthwhile at the panoramic terrace adjacent to the Sistiana Infopoint. From here you dominate the entire Gulf of Trieste.
