By bike on the sites of the Great War: from Monfalcone to Gorizia, passing through Monte San Michele and the Redipuglia Military Shrine, the largest in Italy.
This route, of great historical value, crosses the Gorizia Karst. Starting from Monfalcone, you cycle among the low Karst mountains, sadly known for being the theater of the main battles on the eastern front of the First World War. After passing Doberdò del Lago, you pass through San Martino del Carso, a place dedicated in a poem by Giuseppe Ungaretti. You continue and reach Monte San Michele, a place known for its trenches located inside the open-air museum. Also interesting is the multimedia museum where the latest technologies allow visitors to relive the dramatic events that occurred in this area. You keep going through Savogna d'Isonzo to reach Gorizia, where in one of its trattorias, you can take a small refreshing break. The return to Monfalcone passes through Gradisca d'Isonzo and Sagrado before reaching Fogliano di Redipuglia, where a visit to the largest military shrine in Italy is a must.
In Doberdò del Lago, you can take a short detour to reach the lake of the same name.
