The alternative route begins in Tolmezzo and allows you to explore the villages along the Degano stream valley until you reach Comeglians, passing through Ovaro. For more experienced cyclists, it is possible to switch from the main bike path to this alternative route by crossing the Sella Valcalda pass at Ravascletto on roads open to traffic (elevation 958 m). The route crosses the intermunicipal park of the Carnic Hills, winding through meadows and woods and passing near the important archaeological site of Invillino.
Along the route, you can take various cultural and food-and-wine detours, such as visiting Raveo, an “Authentic Village of Italy.” In Ovaro, you can visit the Museum of Wood and the Venetian Sawmill, a unique testament to the use of forest resources and the documented history of the timber industry in Carnia, dating back to the 18th century during the rule of the Most Serene Republic of Venice. In the hamlet of Clavais, there is a permanent exhibition titled “Memories of War.”
