The route starts from Aquileia, crosses the countryside of Terzo di Aquileia, and runs along the Grado lagoon. A journey immersed between vineyards and the lagoon!
Itinerary
The itinerary mainly winds through the countryside of lower Friuli. Starting from Aquileia, you pedal towards the village of San Martino and Terzo d'Aquileia, until reaching the lagoon near the pumping station and the Marina of Salmastro. Here, it is pleasant to stay in the saddle amid greenery, the waters of the canals, and the sounds of nature. Upon reaching the village of San Martino, you can admire the valuable frescoes inside the Church of San Martino Vescovo. The village hosts the historic "Pumpkin Festival" every year with musical entertainments, exhibitions, and traditional pumpkin-based dishes.
Food & wine
You ride in the DOC Friuli-Aquileia wine production area, where Refosco dal Peduncolo Rosso stands out—a ruby red wine, intense and delicate on the nose with floral, fruity, and spicy hints, dry and smooth on the palate, all to be discovered! A wine that pairs very well with dishes offered in local farmhouses and trattorias.
RECOMMENDED DISH: gnocchi with duck sauce
