The wineries scattered among the hills, the vineyards, and the rural villages suspended in time are the main features of this route.
A bike journey from Cividale to Gorizia.
The route starts in Cividale, the first Lombard duchy in Italy. Cycle towards Firmano, from where the route develops along the Natisone river. Arriving at San Giovanni al Natisone, an area now belonging to the industrial district linked to chair production, you can already glimpse Monte Quarin at the foot of which lies Cormons, a small town that shows visible signs of its Austrian past in the bronze statue of Maximilian I of Habsburg in Piazza Libertà. Places of interest include the Cathedral of Sant'Adalberto with its grand access staircase and Palazzo Locatelli with its Italian garden. Here the route passes from the DOC Friuli Colli Orientali wine region to the DOC Collio. Cycle towards Capriva del Friuli, where in the distance you can see Spessa Castle, pass the Preval nature reserve and Villa Russiz. Arrive at Gorizia through Piedimonte, a locality situated at the foot of Monte Calvario. This hill is connected to the events of the Great War.
