Cycle route between Poffabro and Toppo, charming villages immersed in the greenery of the Pedemontana Pordenonese.
Route
Starting from Maniago, you venture into the suggestive gorge of the Colvera stream, between cliff walls and the rushing stream. The route reaches the ancient village of Poffabro, a gem of mountain architecture: leave your bike in the square and explore the narrow paved streets on foot. Then take your bike again and descend towards the picturesque mountain village of Navarons, birthplace of the Friulian poet Novella Cantarutti. Cross the Meduna river and, following the Pedemontana cycle path (FVG3), reach Toppo and its ancient stone houses. Continue towards Meduno and then back to Maniago along the FVG3.
Food & Wine
In this territory, the red onion of Cavasso Nuovo, a Slow Food presidium, is grown; it is a delicacy with a sweet and crunchy heart. Also great raw, it is a delicious companion for cold cuts and cheeses. The red onion harvest takes place in August and it is preserved in braids all year round. RECOMMENDED DISH: Barley risotto with Cavasso onion.
After descending from Poffabro, you can also visit the adjacent Frisanco, with equally unique and interesting architecture, and the amazing exhibition of miniatures of the houses, places, and the peasant culture of the village "Da li mans di Carlin". Pay attention in sections of roads with mixed traffic.
Circular route; various ups and downs on asphalt road open to vehicle traffic, not particularly busy. One third of the route takes place on a cycle path or road closed to motor vehicles.
Maniago is reachable daily by Train+Bike on the Sacile/Maniago line.
Highway A28 - exit at Cimpello. At the roundabout, continue north towards Sequals. Follow the two-lane road for the direction of travel until the junction with the SR 177 expressway, always keeping direction Sequals. Follow the entire SR 177 until the roundabout intersecting SR 464, near the aforementioned village. Continue towards Maniago always staying on the regional road. Upon arrival in Maniago, cross the bridge over the Colvera stream and keep straight on via Unità d’Italia with a slight uphill. At the end of the ascent, on the left is Via Stazione: turn and continue briefly until the railway station.
