Gemona del Friuli and Venzone are two medieval villages connected by this short and easy cycling-hiking loop suitable for everyone.
Itinerary
The route connects Gemona, with its medieval historic center, to Venzone, a fortified village from the 14th century and one of the most beautiful villages in Italy. It follows the Alpe Adria cycle path to Venzone, crosses the Tagliamento River, and descends toward Bordano, known for murals dedicated to butterflies and the Butterfly House, open in summer. It returns to Gemona passing through Braulins and crossing the river again.

Food & wine
A typical bread from Gemona is pan di sorc, a Slow Food presidium; it is a sweet and spiced bread made from five-grain corn flour, rye, and wheat, with the addition of dried figs, raisins, and fennel seeds.

Public-transport-friendly
Intermodal transport with bicycle: The foothill cycle path is served by intermodal transport, both by train and bus.
Regional trains (Trenitalia) can carry bicycles along the Gorizia to Sacile route (Trieste - Udine - Venice line) and from Sacile to Maniago.
The MICOTRA train is a special international and intermodal service between Udine and Villach (A) with a stop at Gemona del Friuli and can carry over 70 bicycles in designated wagons. It operates two daily round trips and in summer extends its route to Gorizia and Trieste.
In summer, the BiciBus service is active, a bus towing a closed trailer for 40 bicycles: Maniago to Gemona del Friuli with stops at Meduno, Travesio, Pinzano al Tagliamento, Osoppo, and San Daniele del Friuli
