The Magredi is a large area of the Friulian plain whose soil is made up of large pebbles, gravel, sand and little soil. While, over the course of many centuries, most of the magredi areas have been made cultivable, the vast triangular portion between the Cellina and Meduna streams has remained partly as it was found by the first peoples to inhabit Friuli after the last ice age: a sort of white heathland with little grass and a few shrubs. This almost lunar landscape, however, possesses an unexpected naturalness and has an intense charm, similar to that one perceives when looking at the sea or a lake. The wide horizons that can be enjoyed as one travels through this area are unique sights and getting to know the nature of a seemingly barren and desolate land is an experience to be had at least once.

Route on mixed roads with low traffic.
The ring proposes precisely an itinerary that also allows you to penetrate into the interior of the Magredi, perhaps accompanied by a guide, pedalling with a MTB or E-MTB on stony but practicable roads. At the heart of this area are the municipalities of Montereale Valcellina, Vivaro, Arba and Maniago.
Maniago can be reached daily by train+bike on the Sacile/Maniago line.
A28 motorway - exit at Cimpello. At the roundabout, continue in a northerly direction towards Sequals. Follow the road with two lanes in each direction until you reach the junction with the SR 177 motorway, keeping in the direction of Sequals. Proceed along the entire SR 177 until the roundabout at the junction with SR 464, near the above-mentioned town. Continue in the direction of Maniago, always keeping on the regional road. Arriving in Maniago, cross the bridge over the Colvera river and keep straight on along Via Unità d'Italia slightly uphill. At the end of the climb on the left is Via Stazione: turn off and continue briefly to the railway station.
Near the Maniago railway station.
