A bike ride through the countryside connects the city of Gorizia with Gradisca d'Isonzo, which has been named one of the Most Beautiful Villages in Italy.
The route connects the city of Gorizia which, together with Nova Gorica (SLO), will be the European Capital of Culture in 2025, to Gradisca d'Isonzo. Starting from the Railway Station, you cycle through the ancient County of Gorizia, passing rural villages, historic residences, cultivated vineyard fields, gardens, wineries and taverns. During the ride, the cyclist can immerse themselves in the Friuli Isonzo DOC area, which includes all the municipalities crossed by the Isonzo river in the province of Gorizia, thanks to the flat terrain suitable for grape growing. Continue riding your bicycle until reaching the Venetian fortress of Gradisca d'Isonzo. The locality still preserves sections of the ancient defensive walls and the 18th-century palaces that embellish the historic center. The return to Gorizia can be made by following the same route or by train, reaching the Sagrado Railway Station about 3 km from Gradisca.
If you want to stop at one of the wineries along the route, remember to check the opening hours:
