From Sea to Summit: One Challenge Between the Adriatic and the Alps

Two events, two seasons, one shared passion. From the Karst to Mount Lussari, the challenge that brings sea and mountains together.

From the sails of the Barcolana to the ski slopes: Barcolana Ski returns, the event that combines two of the most iconic elements of Friuli Venezia Giulia, the sea and the mountains.

Following the success of its first edition, the project promoted by PromoTurismoFVG is expanding and evolving with two events that will accompany enthusiasts and athletes throughout autumn and winter. A unique experience that showcases the extraordinary diversity of the region, where in just a few kilometres you can travel from the Adriatic coast to the peaks of the Julian Alps.

Featuring great skiing champions, young talents and Barcolana protagonists, Barcolana Ski celebrates Friuli Venezia Giulia through sport, entertainment and passion.

Autumn Cup

10 October 2026 | Aurisina
The first event will take place on Saturday, 10 October 2026, on the eve of the Barcolana, at the  "Neve Sole" Federal Training Centre of Aurisina.

The challenge will feature two true legends of international skiing:
  • · Kristian Ghedina
  • · Tina Maze
The two champions will lead Team Ghedina and Team Maze in a spectacular two-run giant slalom on the Aurisina dry ski slope.

Joining them on the course will be eight young skiers from Friuli Venezia Giulia, selected by the FISI FVG Committee to represent the entire region.

Programme

Saturday, 10 October
A day that captures the very essence of Friuli Venezia Giulia: skiing in the heart of the Karst in the morning, followed by an afternoon among the Barcolana sails overlooking the Adriatic Sea.

  • · 05.00 pm Presentation of certificates for the specialised training course in teaching skiing to people with disabilities
  • · 05.30 pm Official prize-giving ceremony and meet-and-greet with the public at the Hospitality area Io sono Friuli Venezia Giulia in Piazza Unità d'Italia, Trieste

Winter Cup

9 January 2027 | Tarvisio
The major new feature of the 2026-2027 edition will be the Winter Cup, scheduled for Saturday, 9 January 2027 on the renowned Di Prampero slope in Tarvisio.

For this occasion, the connection between sea and mountains will become even more tangible. It will be the protagonists of the Barcolana themselves who take to the slopes in a special promotional night-time giant slalom race.

The event will feature participants representing:

  • · Barcolana Fun
  • · Barcolana SUP
  • · Barcolana Nuota
In the true inclusive spirit of the Barcolana, both representatives of the winning boats and those finishing at the end of the rankings in the various categories will be able to take part in the challenge.

Opening the slope once again will be Kristian Ghedina and Tina Maze, the leading figures and ambassadors of the initiative.
