A wonderful view of the Fusine lakes, one of the most valuable natural sites of the Alpine arc, from the Belvedere of Monte Svabezza.
The path starts on the left side of the road leading to the lower lake (CAI 512). It ascends through a mixed forest of spruce and beech to reach the belvedere of Monte Svabezza (altitude 1284 m). After about an hour the trail exits the forest and continues to the right at about the same altitude. It reaches a point below the rocky walls where the passage is aided by a wooden scaffolding and a metal cable. The trail goes on among larches, beyond the Rio Forcella, where you find the junction with the CAI 512a path leading to the Porticina. Turn left along CAI 512a which leads to the “Porticina.” Descend from the Porticina to rejoin the 512 trail. Start descending to reach the belvedere. The itinerary then continues along the forest road descending to the valley. Going down, follow the same CAI 513 trail and reach the upper lake. At this point, about one more kilometer of paved road must be covered to return to the starting point.
