The beautiful valley of the Venzonassa stream stretches for about 9 kilometers, starting from the Musi Fork and reaching the town of Venzone. Surrounded by the southern slopes of Mount Plauris and the northern slopes of Mounts Chiampon and Ledis, it presents a varied landscape, the result of fluvio-glacial erosion. Here, the valley floor forms a deep gorge with enchanting colors, while higher up, the remains of ancient settlements can be seen. Vegetation is rich, with thickets of manna ash, black hornbeam and admirable beech forests. The fauna is equally abundant, including roe deer, wild boar, hares, marmots, squirrels, foxes and mustelids. A visit should definitely be paid along the way to the wonderful church of St. Anthony, a privileged and panoramic viewpoint over the entire valley.
Author’s recommendation
Hike not suitable for people with vertigo, in which case it is advisable to return to Venzone thanks to the asphalt road, avoiding the section of trail over the gorge.
