A bucolic route that crosses a network of little-used paths and dirt roads converted into cycle-pedestrian trails amid cultivated areas or stable meadows and gentle hilly slopes covered with woods and vineyards.

The Piana del Preval is a valley basin enclosed by the gentle hills of the Gorizian and Slovenian Collio, offering 25 km of flat routes connecting the towns of Capriva del Friuli, Cormons, San Floriano del Collio, and Mossa, passing through vineyards, meadows, and protected ponds (Special Conservation Area - wetland zone in a hilly context but privately owned and therefore no longer accessible).

For those wishing to engage in slow tourism, the plain is crossed by the Ciclovia Pedemontana and Collio FVG 3 and the renowned “Wine Road.” There are camper stop areas and areas equipped with benches, tables, and bike racks, located in various municipalities, plus three different routes indicated by special signage: the mountain route, which is a bit more demanding, the valley route, in the heart of the plain, and the route of villages and towns.

Ideal to explore in spring between April and May, for meadow blooms and the possibility to dedicate yourself to birdwatching and nature photography: cranes, herons, egrets, geese, storks, buzzards, and marsh hawks alternate with the sweet glances of roe deer and hares, not to mention the liveliness of squirrels, jays, hoopoes, and colorful passerines.

    Safety information

The route is flat and marked with specific signage and does not present difficulties. It unfolds on short stretches of paved and light-traffic road.

Avoid embarking on the route during summer, as it is completely exposed to the sun. Possibility of agritourism refreshment points at wineries and farm stays in the surrounding areas.

    Tips and suggestions

Very evocative in winter, due to intense nocturnal frosts that transform the landscape into white by morning. Ideal for nature photography enthusiasts.
