Loop hike along the Malghe trail among karst sinkholes and beech forest. Definitely worth a detour to Forcella di Giais for the spectacular views.
From the Piancavallo infopoint, turn left onto Via Collalto and continue uphill to the electricity box that you meet on the left side of the road.
Follow the Passeggiata delle Malghe signs and the red-and-white markings, entering the beech forest. Staying at altitude, you cross sinkholes and depressions. Before the junction with the forest road, a large sinkhole is encountered. Go past it and cross the road following the red-and-white signs to Casera Caseratte. Take, to the left, CAI 985 and continue on the moderately steep path to Casera Valfredda, clearly visible on a rise to the right. Continue along the small valley to the small fork. Continue downhill to the junction with CAIpath 988, whichends at this point .
Continue left on CAI 985 until you reach a wide junction with CAI trails 971 and 915. From the intersection 985-971-915 continue left for a few dozen meters along trail 971. At the first junction turn left onto the forest road, which is unmarked but clearly visible. Keep on the forest road until the large sinkhole already crossed at the beginning of the trail. Skirt it along its entire perimeter until the intersection with the Malghe Trail. Turn right, following the red-white signs, re-enter Via Collalto and continue to the starting point.
It is possible to take a detour: at junction985-988, continuing to the right on CAI path 988, it is possible to continue to the Forcella di Giais (about an hour's round trip) to enjoy the splendid view over the Veneto-Friuli plain.
