Fascinating circular route to the abandoned villages of Palcoda and Tamar, in Val Tramontina, among surprising renovations and secluded environments.
From Località Comesta (535 m) take path 831a at the end of the road, which shortly becomes unpaved. After crossing the Tarcenò stream, continue towards Palcoda. Pass the "Lion in the Rock," then the descent begins towards the Chiarzò stream. After crossing, there is a fork: left to Palcoda, right to the Pissulat Waterfall and Tamar. Having reached the ruins of Palcoda di Sotto (560 m), continue (crossing a small stream) to Palcoda (628 m). The church here with its two portals and the Palcoda bivouac are unmissable. Now the less marked and more exposed part of the route begins: return to the previous fork, descend towards the Chiarzò stream and follow the river (be careful if the river is particularly swollen). Finally, ascend a grassy section, descend again to the stream, and follow the signs to the Pissulat Waterfall. Then return to the fork and follow the signs towards the small village of Brusat, reached after a final climb. A few steps more, and you reach the village of Tamar (660 m), in a sudden and very well-kept clearing. Here is also the Varnerin bivouac owned by CAI. From Tamar it might be instinctive to take the wide road that descends towards Tramonti di Sotto, but this lengthens the route a lot: looking at the village, it is better to go back a few meters uphill towards the garden and take the path that runs behind the last houses; the first steps are not obvious, but then you find yourself on a path bordered by a dry stone wall that, in less than half an hour, returns to the initial fork.
