A long hiking loop with views of the Friulian Dolomites towards the southern slopes of Mount Zauf where the "campanili" (rock towers) of Costa Baton rise, colorful rocks.
The loop of Costa Baton is presented as a long hike within an extremely interesting area from a naturalistic and geological point of view.
The itinerary follows a long loop developing at the base of Mount Rancolin and Mount Zauf, using trail CAI 212 for the ascent starting from the locality of S. Antonio, just beyond Forni di Sotto. The ascent alternates forested sections with beautiful clearings and is fairly steep, but without difficulties in walking. Near the Casera di Costa Baton, a splendid always open bivouac, panoramas open up over the nearby peaks and the Rancolin saddle, at 1874m, offers a splendid view of the upper Marodia valley.
A series of ascents and descents leads to the campanili of Costa Baton that stand in a wide canyon. Trail 213 finally leads to the dirt road ascending towards the Zauf Pass which, followed downhill, after a long path returns to the starting point.
It is possible to split the loop into two days by staying overnight, with prior phone reservation, at the Casera Costa Baton.
