The summit of Mt. Cuarnan is a pivileged point from which to admire Friuli. Starting from Malga Cuarnan by an easy dirt road bordered by beech trees, one reaches the green meadows of Somp Palis, from which one quickly ascends along the ridge line to the Shelter E. Pischiutti, in whose vicinity you can admire the sculpture of "Fie da l'Aiar" by G. Patat. Continuing along the obvious path you reach the Church of the Redeemer (highest point at 1370 m), from which you can admire a 360-degree panorama: from the north the Carnic Alps stand out in the distance, while the Chiampon slopes eastward into the Julian Alps; turning to the south the moraine hills slope down into the Friulian Plain and (on fine days) into the Adriatic, while to the west the Piancavallo and the Friulian Dolomitescan be seen. The descent is for the first few steps along the route taken uphill and then turns north at the first fork, descending quickly toSella Foredor and returning to Malga Cuarnan.
Author’s recommendation
Avoid climbing in the middle hours of summer days; the loop is largely exposed to the sun and there are no water sources on the route.
