Challenging hike towards Monte Ciavac immersed in the unspoiled nature of the Friulian Dolomites Park.
From the square in Andreis, head towards the Visitor Center, pass it and continue along via dell’Acquedotto. After leaving the village and descending briefly, near a small bridge leave the paved road and take a dirt road to the right. This climbs up a hill (Col de Crous) then descends to the bed of the Ledron stream (Placia del Ledròn).
The trail follows the water course (3 fords) for about 750 meters, then turns right (signposted) onto a wooded slope mainly of black pine (Plan Davour). The path climbs steeply through the forest and reaches a narrow saddle (Pala de le Pittes), the highest point of the route (760m asl). From the saddle, the trail descends towards the valley of the Susaibes stream initially passing through a narrow channel, then crossing sparse woodland and a gravelly slope ending near the stream bed. There is l’Aga dal muscle, a spring partially covered by moss and which local tradition considers drinkable only where the water flows directly over the stones. Continue downstream along the stream for about 500 meters (2 concrete dams) through a very scenic rocky setting.
The path leaves the stream bed climbing right near an old lime kiln and reaches the hamlet of Sott’Anzas. From here continue climbing along a trail above some houses and, upon reaching a road, descend to reach the settlement of Andreis.

There are no support or refreshment points along the route, so make sure to carry enough water before starting the hike.
The Mont Ciavac is a hill overlooking Andreis and precedes the steep slopes and cliffs of the Monte Raut massif. The route that circles and ascends it allows immersion in the environmental context of the Periadriatic Overthrust (Barcis-Staro Selo Line), a distinct fault line highlighting the intense tectonic activity of the area.
