Medium difficulty route that reaches a unique panorama: rock, water, and nature meet at Guado del Cunath and at the Forra dell’Artugna.
Leaving the Piancavallo infopoint, at the entrance roundabout of Piancavallo, take Via del Cansiglio on a slight uphill. Take Via dei Rododendri briefly to the right and then turn left onto Via dei Ciclamini, passing through the beautiful buildings of the area. At the end of the road, CAI 994 starts to the right and 990 to the left. Continue on trail 994, or the Sentiero della Memoria, dedicated to partisan commander Maso who died here in combat on April 12, 1945, a few days before the end of the war. The route briefly follows a forest road before entering the woods. Continuing downhill, reach the border between the municipalities of Aviano and Budoia. Cross the Piancavallo-Cansiglio ridge and continue until you arrive at Casera Sauc, almost completely hidden by vegetation growth.
Follow the CAI 994 trail marker, from which you shortly reach the dirt road Venezia delle Nevi. Walk it for a short downhill stretch and then resume the trail at the first switchback. Descend until you intersect the old dirt road again, walking it for about 250 meters. Pass the Fontana del Tarabin and descend back into the woods. Follow the sign indicating the fork for CAI 990 and after about fifteen minutes of walking, reach the Guado del Cunath and the start of the Forra dell’Artugna, a wonderful spectacle of water and rocks. Take the left CAI 990 trail which gently ascends the Valle de la Stua, crosses the Cavallo-Cansiglio ridge, and leads back to Via dei Ciclamini and the starting point.
