Not too long and suitable for all types of hikers, the stage combines historical finds from various eras with the beauty and uniqueness of the territory.
A short route perfect for those who want to combine a historical approach with the places of the Great War, among cemeteries and natural caves used for military purposes, with the ethnographic and natural beauties of the Karst environment. Typical of this short and easily manageable route for any type of hiker, thanks also to the low elevation gain, are the small villages, with groups of houses in Karst style built in stone. The pastures are enclosed by typical dry stone walls. The characteristic nature offers both a splendid spring bloom among wild plums, broom, and forsythia, and a surprising foliage that paints the territory gold and deep red in the autumn period.
The historic village of Štanjel, 9 km from Komen, is worth a visit.
In Gorjansko, the church of St. Andrew with paintings by the artist Tone Kralj is interesting, and just outside the village is the Austro-Hungarian cemetery with 6,000 soldiers fallen during the Great War.

The stage starts from the center of Komen heading towards Debela Griža where one can see one of the best-preserved prehistoric hillforts of the entire Karst. It then proceeds towards Volčji Grad, Nadrožica until reaching Gorjansko, where the largest Austro-Hungarian military cemetery in Slovenian territory is located, with its monumental part completed in 1916. From this point, following the road, the path heads towards the Italian border, crossing it and concluding the route by finally reaching the village of Malchina. This is the southernmost point of the loop starting from Nova Gorica. From here, you can decide whether to return through the parallel Italian stages or continue towards Trieste/Trst.
