The name Case Coisce indicates the compound of an old farm consisting of several buildings once owned by the rulers of Duino. It can be reached via a road closed to private traffic (connecting the villages of Ceroglie and Medeazza); originally built for different purposes, it was then converted into a military site.
Today, only some ruins of the original layout can be seen, but there are still several remains of the Great War. In particular, inside the buildings opposite the farm, you can observe some thick walls in reinforced concrete, which fortified the structures without changing their external look: they were built to deceive the enemy, maintaining their original appearance and thus preventing its identification as a military site.
Next to the farm, other remains of the war can be found. Some caves contain objects and equipment left by Austro-Hungarian soldiers and the Anglo-American troops, who used this site during the years of the Allied administration (1945-1954).
