Trieste as told by James Joyce and Italo Svevo

Why has Trieste enchanted and inspired writers, poets and intellectuals throughout Europe? What is its magic? Come and discover it in person, strolling through this splendid city which is still animated by excellent literary echoes or following the most loved routes of two writers from the past, James Joyce and his friend Italo Svevo. Finally, stop off in one of its historical cafes, where they still speak of literature, poetry and art.

Joyce lived in Trieste for well over a decade, which turned out to be essential for European literature: it was in fact here that the Irish writer completed Dubliners, A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man and conceived and began to write his most famous novel, Ulysses.
The traces of his presence can be recognised at various points throughout the city, combined in a special itinerary that is able to reconstruct an essential biographic journey, beginning from the small but fascinating Joyce Museum.

During his stay in Trieste Joyce exerted a powerful influence on another great author, the Trieste-born Italo Svevo to whom he was bound in true friendship and intellectual similarity. Departing from the Svevo Museum, located in the same building that houses the Joyce Museum, you can begin a fascinating literary journey to discover Svevo places: http://www.museosveviano.it/itinerario-sveviano
