Dog walking in Resiutta, in the Parco delle Prealpi Giulie

“Woof, friends! I'm very excited, it's my first time as a Social Ambassador: my name is Cairdiulacht Einri MacTarbh, but everyone calls me Tabby! It is said that I am a very rare dog, I am an Irish Glen of Imaal Terrier; perhaps I am rare, but they say I’m a funny guy! Today together with many other dogs we went to Resiutta, a small village within the Prealpi Giulie nature reserve which covers about 100 square km and also includes the municipalities of Chiusaforte, Lusevera, Moggio Udinese, Resia e Venzone. The walk was immediately very interesting: in single file we started on a grid walkway suspended over the crystalline green waters of the Resia stream (for we dogs this was a true act of courage!) and then we started to climb along a tree-lined and well-groomed path, where there are fourteen original chapels of the Via Crucis, which led us to a beautiful viewpoint at the church of Calvario, which stands on Monte Chichi (575 m asl): the view from up there is magnificent and ranges from the village of Resiutta to the surrounding mountains and the valley of the Fella river. I must say that I and a Fox Terrier, “Little Jo”, were thrilled! And yet we did not know what was awaiting us, because we set off again and soon we went down to the banks of the Resia torrent: how wonderful to enter the fresh and clear running water!! I feared that this dog walk had come to an end and instead we all went together to visit the exhibition of the Resartico mine, where my friend Cristiana explained what was mined and the history of the mines in the area. Well, I learned a lot of things: here they used to extract oil shale with which liquid hydrocarbons called shale oil were produced, a substitute for crude oil and this oil was used to provide the first street lighting in the city of Udine. The exhibition is small but interesting, arranged with vintage photos, panels, videos with old miners talking about the life and activities of the mine, and there is also a reconstruction of a life-size tunnel with a wagon, where Daniela and I had a nice picture taken. Unfortunately we did not have the time, but it is possible to go on a “real” visit to the old mine of Resartico and nearby also visit the Galleria Ghiacciaia dug to make a warehouse in which to chill... beer! Yes, because in Resiutta, beer was produced from 1844, exploiting the excellent waters of the Resia. And to top it off, all at the bar, souvenir photos and in the rucksack some tasty breadsticks from Resiutta! What a fun! See you soon, dear friends!!!! A lick from Tabby!”

My passions: tourism, dogs and foreign languages. I mix and mingle them to create new projects. I’m very patient; if I weren’t I couldn’t have a beagle and with him have founded the Dog Walker Club for exploring FVG at the natural, slow pace of our four-legged friends. Favourite saying: "Perros compañeros, no de compañia".
