The Costa Baton ring is proposed as a long excursion within an extremely interesting area from a naturalistic and geological point of view.

The route envisages a long ring-route that develops at the base of M. Rancolin and M. Zauf, taking advantage for the ascent of the CAI 212 path that starts from the locality of S. Antonio, just beyond Forni di Sotto. The ascent alternates wooded stretches with beautiful clearings and is rather steep, but without any difficulty. In the proximity of the Costa Baton cheese factory, a splendid bivouac that is always open, the views widen to the nearby peaks and the Rancolin pass, at 1874m, offers a splendid view of the upper Marodia valley.

A series of ups and downs leads to the Costa Baton peaks, which stand in a wide gully. Path 213 finally leads to the dirt road up to the Zauf Pass, which, after a long descent, leads back to the starting point.

    Author’s recommendation

It is possible to split the circular route into two days and spend the night in the Costa Baton hut (by prior arrangement).
