Loop starting from the hamlet of Campeglio allowing you to reach the charming and panoramic villages of Costalunga and Valle di Soffumbergo
Relatively challenging route, but offering fantastic views of the Friulian plain thanks to the privileged position of these small villages of the municipality of Faedis, clinging to the ridge that from Mount Joanaz slopes southwest. The hike starts from Campeglio, where a convenient parking area near the church allows us to leave the car. From there we head towards Raschiacco, from where we enter the woods to start climbing! We will emerge from the dense trees at Costalunga, a small rural village that enjoys a spectacular view of the plain. Then we reach Valle di Soffumbergo, another tiny hamlet famous for the Chestnut Festival held there every year on several weekends in October. From here we begin our descent towards the valley bottom, with one last important stop: the ruins of Soffumbergo Castle, an ancient medieval castle also famous for having been the summer residence of the Patriarch of Aquileia.
Recommended on October weekends to visit the traditional festival (information about dates available on the Pro Loco website: www.prolocovalledisoffumbergo.it
